Valbonne is a very beautiful little ancient town, surrounded by vegetation which has kept its authenticity and its cachet alive today. It is located in the sector European technopolis industrial zone in Sophia Antipolis 30 mins from the seaside.

History of the town

Valbonne remained a mainly agricultural village until the middle of the XXth century. The olive trees and the vine constitute the main cultural parts, with the rose and the jasmine coming from the perfumery.
After the Second World War and the arrival of refugees from the occupied zone, things started to change. The Peace, revenue and the movement grew during the 1950s.
In response to the overcrowding and the growing agitation of the coast, the Middle Country is densified with the construction of numerous villas on the agricultural and forest plots which were left free by the decline of agriculture. This development will be facilitated by the improvement of communication routes and the construction of some collective equipment.
In parallel, trade and crafts will develop, as well as companied linked to tourism and leisure. The birth of Sophia Antipolis will be a new turning point in the development of the town.

Place des arcadesThe city is one of the few Provençal villages of the Middle Ages, which has a very precise layout, in the form of a grid with the alleys, all having the same width according to the original design created in 1519. This means that in the centre of the village is the place of the arcades, where cafes occupy a privileged place in the heart of the old village. The terraces of the open cafes benefit from a beautiful exposure and are taken by storm at the first rays bringing a very pleasant atmosphere.
