History of the town

This historic village has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Its interest is mentioned in the 11th century in a charter from the Abbey of Saint-Victor in Marseille. Ramatuelle is located near St-Tropez, Sainte-Maxime and Gassin. It was built on a hill to defend against enemies. The city was known in the Middle Ages as Ramatuella (derived from the Arabic “mercy of God”).

Environment

The village of Ramatuelle is perched on the hill of Paillas about 130 meters south of Saint-Tropez. It overlooks the famous Pampelonne beach and overlooks the wine-growing plains.
Ramatuelle is also known for its contemporary villas with a beautiful sea view but also more Provencal properties to enjoy the sun all year round.

Stroll through the historic alleys and let your steps lead you to unexpected places. We enter the medieval village through narrow and curving streets where we once found the castle of Ramatuelle … We appreciate the sweetness of life and we taste the Provençal treasures between anchovy, bouillabaisse or stew with terrace of many cafes. On Thursdays and Sundays, a craft market enlivens Place de l’Ormeau and its café with Mediterranean charm.
A desire for nature? Choose between the pine forests to the south, where nature is omnipresent and the Pampellone Beach, an area of 27 hectares that helped build the fame of Saint-Tropez when the stars of the fifties and sixties fell in love with it. Ever popular to this day, it is one of the most famous beaches in the world.
At nightfall, the village comes alive. Renowned festivals share the summer stage. From classical music to jazz and variety, musicians have dazzled audiences over many a year and attract more and more followers to the sumptuous decor of the outdoor “Théâtre de Verdure”.

Chez Camille: Between sea and authenticitySince 1913, the famous restaurant has been offering authentic, family cuisine. The fish and lobsters caught in the morning are then cooked and in particular in bouillabaisse, recognized as the house specialty. But also fresh fish and Mediterranean lobsters grilled over a wood fire. The ideal place to enjoy the sunset facing the sounds of the sea, while tasting a Provencal wine.
