A city of art, history, culture, and a garden, Menton is a preserved paradise on the Riviera, achieving the perfect alchemy between all the beauties of the world. Welcome to Menton, where nothing is ordinary, not even its lemon.

History of the town

Menton came into existence in the 1250s, and its historical center developed around the Roman road that traversed it.

By 1880, Menton became a fashionable seaside resort, benefiting from the tourist development of the French Riviera. It was favored by English tourists and the Russian aristocracy. Palaces and luxury villas were built, and it hosted notable figures such as Empress Eugénie, King Albert I of Belgium, Alexander of Russia, Queen Victoria of England, as well as renowned artists like Auguste Rodin, Franz Liszt, and Charles Gounod.

LOCATION

  • 10 minutes from the Italian border
  • 25 minutes from Monaco
  • 40 minutes from Nice and its international airport

Environment

Its unique sunlight and mild climate favor the cultivation of oranges, lemon trees, palm trees, mimosas, and the extraction of essential oils.

Menton has much to offer. Its proximity to the sea allows you to enjoy the pleasures of a stroll on the old port and experience the year-round quality of life.

The character-filled villas and authentic houses offered in Menton provide an idyllic lifestyle.

Lifestyle

The old town is an open-air work of art composed of ancient colorful facades. Here, you’ll find the ambiance and charm of yesteryear.

Next, explore the Garavan district, located between the old town and the Italian border. Luxury villas are prevalent here, built by the French and international upper bourgeoisie.

Then, wander through the alleys of this seaside town. The baroque art is remarkable, especially at the parvis of the Basilique Saint-Michel and a few steps higher, the Chapel of the Pénitents Blancs. Climbing to the top of the hill, observe the cemetery of the Vieux-Château, the last retreat of Russian and British aristocrats, offering an unparalleled view of the city, the sea, Italy, and the mountains.
