Located between Ramatuelle and Saint-Tropez, the hilltop village of Gassin is classified amongst the “Most Beautiful Villages of France”. Overlooking a landscape of vineyards and forests, it offers a superb panorama of the Mediterranean, the “Massif des Maures” Mountain Range and the peninsula of Saint-Tropez. A treasure on the heights of the countryside, facing the Mediterranean Sea.
The first mention of Gassin dates from 1190. The village was in an area which had struggled to prosper due to a lack of passable roads. In the 19th century its development came from the plains, the agriculture and the vineyards, together with the construction of suitable roads and a railway.
As an anecdote, It is in Gassin where there is the narrowest street in the world: Indeed, it measures only 29 centimetres wide, this is how it looks, part of the picturesque charm of the perched village of Gassin.
This narrow passageway is commonly known as “androuno”. Its name comes from the Latin ‘andron’, derived from the Greek, meaning – “men”. The androuno therefore seems to be a narrow and uninviting alley, which cannot be adapted to womanly shapes and therefore is reserved for men!
A Getaway for a few days, a family vacation, or it is an ideal environment for a second home. It has easy access to the fun and glamour of Saint Tropez. Gassin is a countryside hub, which is not far from the marinas, the vineyards, the beaches and the motorway to Nice. Rich in sunny weather all year round, this ideal village is the perfect place to enjoy every moment with total nature which faces panoramic views of the sea.
Your discovery of the village begins after having climbed the flowery, ocher-colored alleyways to enjoy the breath-taking panorama of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and the “Massif des Maures” mountains.
