Théoule-sur-Mer

SUMMARY

Theoule, which displays earthy warm colours, is nestled in the massif de l’Esterel on a terrain which covers an area of 1,049 hectares. From its creeks and sheltered coves, Théoule offers breath-taking views of the sea, the coastline and the mountains. Theoule is a tresor of the Cote D’azur, which is to discover during winter like summer.

History of the town

Theoule –sur-Mer at the time was a principal residence by Lord de Mandelieu-la-Napoule, named Eucher de Gaulois. Lastly it has since been a very safe harbour, protected by a watchtower where unfortunately it was attacked and razed to the ground in 1648.
Within time, Théoule became for centuries a small fishing port which depended on the commune of Mandelieu. It was not really populated until the end of the 19th century, before becoming an independent community in 1929. As with much of the Riviera it began to attract visitors at the beginning of the 20th century.

Environment

Within the surroundings there is also is the Pointe de l’Aiguille , a landmark, a sublime park of red rocks plunging into a limpid sea.

In the Théoule sur Mer bay you will discover turquoise waters licking its sandy beaches shaded by palm trees, numerous creeks and the rocky red coves of the Estérel. It is an area of relaxation under the mild heat of summer.
At the end of the day, stroll through its pretty little marina with its red stone mini-lighthouse and admire some very beautiful gleaming mansions surrounded by gardens. You will not be able to miss the superb castle in chiselled red stone, known as the “castle of the Miners” which is in fact an old soap factory of the 18th century transformed into holiday residence.

La pointe de l’Aiguille
Start your trail with the Corniche de l’Estérel, the seaside boulevard, and take the time to observe the extraordinary show that the view offers between the sea and the mountains.
In this typical red rock mountainess terrain, has vegetation characteristics of the coastal areas of l’Estérel.
You will find a variety of Mediterranean colours and scents such as arbutus, broom and lavender that flourish in the midst of maritime pines, holm oaks and cork oaks.
The Pointe de l’Aiguille cove is a magical place, separated into two parts by rocks, made up of pebbles with a magical view of the Lérins Islands. Have in mind that there is also an underwater path that is found at the first beach.
