People move to the French Riviera during the winter months to enjoy the milder winters. The region is known for having more than 300 days a year of sunshine – even throughout winter. The summer can be hot, between 82°F to 93°F (or 26-25 degrees) during the day. Making the beautiful beaches a popular destination! During September, the weather starts to cool and become much more comfortable. Often the summer months feel too hot to explore, and the beaches can become crowded. Throughout the Autumn the weather temperatures fall to between 71 °F and 80 °F (or 18 – 23 degrees). The cooler temperature makes exploring the historic towns and villages much more pleasant. However, the sun is still shining almost every day! It is not necessary to wear a warm coat or jumpers. A light jacket or overcoat is usually more than enough during the Autumn.

Occasionally Autumn brings bursts of hot weather! On warmer days, many locals visit the beaches and some even brave swimming in the sea! The French Riviera has many beautiful beaches that can be enjoyed throughout the year. From ‘La Plage de la Garoupe’ (a beautiful beach in Cap d’Antibes) – you can swim in the sea whilst enjoying a breathtaking view of the snow-capped French Alps. If you don’t fancy a swim, you can relax and enjoy a picnic or an Apero. Many people enjoy sailing and windsurfing during the Fall and Winter months. Making the port towns a year-round hotspot! Antibes is the main port town in the Côte d’Azur and is often the most lively throughout the cooler months.

The French Riviera has some of the most beautiful hiking spots in France! From the Esterel Mountains, you can look down over the Bay of Cannes and the Bay of Saint Tropez. If you want to explore the Provencal countryside, you can travel to The Var. An inland region within the Côte d’Azur – famous for its vineyards!

The south of France has an abundance of delicious restaurants! You can dine in a chic beach bar or a cosy café like the locals. The French are famous for their delicious food! One of the best destinations for great food in the ‘offseason is the historic city of Antibes. Antibes is a year-round city, meaning shops and cafés are open all year! You can explore the winding streets and find delicious places to eat on every corner. The morning market is an excellent opportunity to browse the stalls and taste delicious local produce. Whether you are enjoying a glass of rosé in a wine bar, or sharing a pizza at an Italian café. Antibes is the perfect place to experience authentic local life on the French Riviera!

Where is the best place to watch the sunset on?
The French Riviera is famous for its sensational sunsets! Every evening the sky turns to candyfloss colours throughout the region. However, during fall and winter, the sunsets become much more dramatic! As the days get shorter, the light across the region changes. Everything from the colour of the sky to the colour of the trees and vegetation becomes vibrant. As the sun slowly sets behind the sea and Esterel Mountains the skyline appears to be ablaze. It is a truly breathtaking experience.
