A small Provencal village located a few kilometres from Fayence, Seillans is classified among the most beautiful villages in France. It has a very rich historical, cultural and architectural heritage. A medieval village, Seillans offers a maze of cobbled and flowered streets, as well as a beautiful view of the plain between the Alps and the Massif de l'Estérel.
Seillans was built over the centuries around a fortified wall and the medieval town centre can only be reached on foot.
To enclose this wall, gates were built. The Saracen Gate, classified as a Historic Monument, closed the first enclosure and was built in the 12th century. The medieval houses that served as defences for the castle collapsed in the 1960s, revealing the "Two Boulders" which were later classified as Historic Monuments.
To start your walk, take a stroll through the medieval village and its cobbled streets. You will be charmed by its terraced houses and the pretty stone facades. Stop at the terrace of a café on one of the village squares and listen to the gentle gush of the fountains. For those who love activities and outings, let yourself be tempted by cycling, horse riding, hiking or a game of pétanque.
Place du ThouronOne of the many squares in the village, the Place du Thouron has had a fountain and a wash-house since 1724. It is one of the most important squares in Seillans.
