    Spéracèdes

    SUMMARY

Built on a slope and facing south, Spéracèdes proudly stands in the heart of an exceptional Mediterranean environment.

    History of the town

Until the early 20th century, Spéracèdes was a part of Cabris, sharing its history. In 1910, they became separate entities. Records from the 17th century indicate cultivated lands and houses dating back to 1686. In the 18th century, demographic growth led to the construction of a chapel, erected and maintained by the residents in 1762.

In 1835, the municipal council decided to expand the church, funded by the residents without causing harm to public roads. The 1762 entrance door originates from the initial place of worship. The economy revolved around olive cultivation, livestock, and vegetable farming. The road below was traversed in the Middle Ages before the establishment of a bypass near the current town hall.

    The Baussy Olive Mill

The picturesque ancient village of Spéracèdes, gracefully perched on the mountain west of Grasse, unveils its timeless charm. In the heart of this enchanting backdrop, the Baussy family proudly owns two mills, silent witnesses to their rich history.

Until 1956, the mill was operated by the Doussan family. However, due to frost, the Doussans were forced to abandon the mill. Four years later, in 1960, the mill’s story took a new turn with Aimé Baussy and his wife, a niece of François Doussan. Although the mill, nestled below the village, celebrated its centenary, it remains at the forefront of innovation today.
