The chateau stood as a substantial hunting lodge for the Bishops of Brignole in 1750 although we understand that the oldest octagonal tower dates back to the 16th century at the time of Francois premier. In the 1800s, Lord Alfred Paget, a key figure in the battle of Waterloo, owned the property and it is during this time that Queen Victoria visited his wife, Cecilia, her lady-in-waiting, planted the magnificent pine tree in the gardens to mark the birth of her goddaughter.

Later it became the residence of the Comte and Comtesse de Chambrun who was Raine Spencer, Princess Diana’s stepmother. The princess and her sons visited while on their holidays in the south of France and the chateau still contains furniture from the Althorp Estate. Today, an English family owns and has recently renovated the chateau.

Steeped in history of aristocracy and celebrity, the chateau has hosted film festival luminaries to royalty. The chateau has 8 double bedrooms, 3 twin rooms, a quadruple bedroom and 11 bathrooms while the villa has 2 double bedrooms, 1 twin bedroom and 4 bathrooms.
