Gassin Real Estate : Discover the town
Gassin is an ancient Var village seeped in history, which commands one of the best views in the south of France. Looking out over the village’s well preserved ramparts, visitors are immediately mesmerized by the emerald blue sea of the Golfe de St Tropez, which lies 4km away, as well as the snowy peaks of the Alps in the far distant. It is hardly surprising that Gassin has been included in the list of the most beautiful villages in France.
Gassin is also believed to be one of the oldest villages in the area, with the first written traces dating back to 1234. The Knight Templars are thought to have built the castle high up on the rock above the Golfe de St Tropez, and if you look closely enough you can see the traces of the Templars on the ancient walls in some of the streets and on a few doors.
Take a walk around Gassin and you will feel a million miles from the bustle of the coast. Sitting in the ancient Place Dei Barry is an antidote for anyone feeling stressed or over-worked. The village has a beautiful old church called la Chapelle Notre-Dame de Consolation, and its 13th century ramparts are well worth a visit.
However, the Var village is much more than just a pretty tourist trap. There are a number of acclaimed restaurants such as Le Vieux Gassin and Le Carpaccio, as well as an 18-hole golf course at the Gassin Golf and Country Club and a polo club, The Haras de Gassin.
There is also an impressive range of property available in and around Gassin, which is perhaps surprising for a small medieval village, from renovated apartments and houses in the cobbled streets of the old village to modern villas in palatial grounds on the terraces that lead down to the coast.
