Saint Paul

Spectacularly situated on a rocky outcrop a short distance from Nice, Saint Paul de Vence is widely considered to be amongst the most beautiful villages in France. Despite its relative inaccessibility, it is an extremely popular tourist destination and during the summer its narrow cobbled streets and shady squares are filled with tourists, keen to sample its delights.

Despite the crowds, St Paul de Vence real estate remains an extremely attractive commodity and should you choose to buy a property in Saint Paul de Vence you will certainly be in illustrious company. The town has long been a haven for the rich and famous and during the 1960’s was frequented by a number of French actors including Yves Montand and Simone Signoret

Given its spectacular setting, superb views and exquisite lighting it is of little surprise that the town has also attracted a large number of artists, poets and writers. Marc Chagall lived here and is buried in the local cemetery, while the American writer James Baldwin died here in 1987. The town is also home to a number of superb art galleries and museums including the contemporary collection of the Fondation Maeght,

Even if you do not choose to visit the galleries you will be surrounded by art. A walk along the pedestrianised street between the Porte Royale and the Porte Sud will take you past a number of magnificently carved 16th-18th century stone façades, while a visit to La Colombe d’Or restaurant will reveal a series of works by Picasso and Matisse, both of whom used to dine there on a regular basis.
