Spectacularly situated on a rocky outcrop a short distance from Nice, Saint Paul de Vence is widely considered to be amongst the most beautiful villages in France. A walk along the pedestrianised street between the Porte Royale and the Porte Sud will take you past a number of magnificently carved 16th-18th century stone façades, while a visit to La Colombe d’Or restaurant will reveal a series of works by Picasso and Matisse, both of whom used to dine there on a regular basis.
